Meet Our New GYSO Directors

Join us in welcoming our new GYSO directors for the 2025–2026 season. 

Dr. David Doke, Philharmonic Director. Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra

Dr. David Doke, Philharmonic Orchestra

With over 30 years of experience, Dr. David Doke is a powerhouse in music education and youth orchestra development. He launched two award-winning high school orchestra programs in Cobb County and retired in 2024 after leading Hillgrove High’s orchestra, AP Music Theory program, and Fine Arts Department.

Under his direction, school ensembles performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and internationally in France, China, and Iceland. A professional violinist, Dr. Doke has played with orchestras across the U.S., Mexico, and Austria, and even toured with country legend Ray Price.

A recognized clinician and Alfred Music National Clinician, he brings passion, innovation, and decades of excellence to GYSO Philharmonic.

 

Dr. Will Whitehead, Camerata Orchestra - Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra

Dr. Will Whitehead, Camerata Orchestra

Dr. Will Whitehead is an award-winning conductor, violist, and music educator with a Ph.D. in Music Education and Conducting from Florida State University. He currently leads the Daniell Middle School orchestra and FSU’s Summer Gold Symphony Orchestra.

He’s conducted ensembles from middle school to college and has worked with top artists like harpist Noël Wan and pianist Antonio Oyarzábal. His programming spans classics to contemporary works, film scores, and even live video game music.

A frequent presenter and published researcher, Dr. Whitehead brings creativity, versatility, and a deep commitment to music education to the Camerata Orchestra.
