Georgia Symphony Orchestra Announces New Leadership

(Marietta, Ga., December 22, 2022): Suzanne Tucker has been named as the incoming executive director of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra (GSO), effective January 9, 2023.  

Ms. Tucker has a track record of creative leadership in the arts.

“I am thrilled to become a part of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra family. I strongly believe in the creative vision of this organization. I am convinced that music is a powerful tool for fostering connection…and this connection is sorely missing in our world today. The GSO’s history of enriching and inspiring programs and its influence in the lives of thousands of students means that we are poised to become leaders for change in our community. I’m excited to bring my passion for music and connection to lead the next evolution of the GSO. There are great things ahead for us,” Ms. Tucker said.

Suzanne Tucker served in various church music leadership roles for 18 years in Cobb County, where she was lauded for her strategic planning and communication skills.Previously, Suzanne taught in the public school system for almost a decade, teaching music to students in grades K-12. Her enthusiastic teaching style and innovative classroom techniques earned her the title of Teacher of the Year in her first year of teaching. 

Suzanne earned her MMEd from the University of Georgia, and her BMEd from Shorter College. She lives in Marietta with her husband Jeffrey and their two sons, Jackson and Will. 

Additionally, as of January 1, 2023, the Georgia Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Knowles as Board Chair. 

Michael Knowles is a Senior Relationship Manager with Fifth Third Bank.  A Cobb resident for over 27 years, he resides in Kennesaw, Georgia with his wife Pauline.  Michael currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and Cobb Travel & Tourism.  He is a Past Chair of Cobb Travel & Tourism, Cobb Community Foundation, Chattahoochee Technical College and North Metro Technical College.  Michael earned a BBA in finance from the University of Oklahoma and is a graduate of The Graduate Banking School- University of Colorado, Leadership Cobb, Leadership Georgia and Regional Leadership Institute.
