IRENA SYLYA is the Founder and General Director of Fundación Ópera Panamá which has produced many operas in the past 15 years including MADAMA BUTTERFLY, DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, LA TRAVIATA, LA BOHEME, TOSCA, AIDA, DER SCHAUSPIELDIREKTOR, I PAGLIACCI, SUOR ANGELICA and MACBETH  as well as more than eighty concerts in Panama and in the interior of the Republic, in addition to education programs for children from the age of six.

Opera Panama provides an international quality education by bringing in masters in their fields to Panama. It should be noted that its education programs have been open to students from Panama  whether in the foundation or not and from other countries such as the United States, Russia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina, Brazil, El Salvador, and Venezuela.

IRENA SYLYA, recognized internationally for her incarnation of dramatic opera heroines, performances include: Turandot, Aida, Cavalleria Rusticana, Il Trovatore, Lohengrin, Parsifal, Die Walküre, Die Götterdämmerung, Jenufa, The Consul, and world premieres of Goldscmidt’s Beatrice Cenci, PDQ Bach’s Oedipus 

Tex , Baumgartner’s Maria Theresia, premieres in Germany and the United States Ades’ Powder Her Face.

Her career has led her to perform in major theaters in the United States, Europe – Germany, Austria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, France as well as Israel and Panama; to high acclaim in the Los Angele Times. Opera News, Neue Merker, Il Mattino and the Voralberger Nachrichtung among others.

She currently works as a stage director and teacher in Panama and  Mexico as well as teaching master classes in Europe, USA and Latin America.
